Manchester (England): Cristiano Ronaldo has dismissed the latest speculation linking him with Real Madrid and says he plans to stay at Manchester United.

Although the Portuguese winger repeatedly said at the end of last season he wanted a move to Madrid, he says it is untrue that the two clubs made an agreement that he would switch clubs at the end of the current campaign.

“There’s always speculation, not just about me, but about the future of players all around the world,” the 23-year-old star told Manchester United TV. “People were speaking about me this summer but that was normal because of what I did during the season.”
Ronaldo scored 42 goals for the Red Devils last term and helped the team win both the Premier League and Champions League titles. After weeks of speculation he did little to deny, Madrid ended its efforts to sign the star.

“What people are saying now is not true,” he said about reports that the clubs agreed to a deal. “I am happy at the club, I want to stay here. I feel at home here. I feel very happy here.”

Roger Federer returned from a five-week layoff to beat Radek Stepanek in the second round of the Madrid Masters. The 2006 champion rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the tiebreaker with some excellent shot making, including a backhand that landed in the far corner on match point.

Federer, playing his first ATP event since winning the US Open last month, will face Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfred Tsonga. Top-ranked Rafael Nadal pulled out of doubles with Carlos Moya because of a slight upper leg injury.

Roger Federer Wins US Open Tennis

Earlier Federer lost the French Open and Wimbledon finals. From all around the world they arrived, some to his parents’ house in Switzerland, some to his agent, some to his hotels. They came from retired players and from current coaches, from doctors, from fans. They offered good wishes, medical advice, even tennis advice.
Everyone figured Federer needed help, and everyone figured they knew how to help.
Turns out Federer was just fine. Turns out he still knew how to win a major tournament. He proved that Monday night, easily beating Andy Murray 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 to win a fifth consecutive US Open championship and 13th Grand Slam title overall.
“I felt like I was invincible for a while again,” said Federer, the only man in tennis history to win five straight titles at two major events.
He moved within one Grand Slam title of tying Pete Sampras’ record of 14.
“I always knew that if I were to get one Slam under my belt, especially the last one, things weren’t looking that bad, like everybody was talking about,” Federer said. “I didn’t feel I was under pressure to prove myself in trying to win here, but this definitely feels very sweet.”
Nothing like the bitter taste left by his lopsided loss to nemesis Rafael Nadal in the French Open final. Or by his heartbreakingly narrow loss to Nadal — 9-7 in the fifth set in fading light — in the Wimbledon final, denying Federer a sixth straight title there. Those, plus a semifinal loss at the Australian Open, were among Federer’s 12 defeats by August in 2008, more than he had in any entire season from 2004-07. He also arrived in New York with only two titles from minor events, and allowed Nadal to end Federer’s record 4 1/2-year reign at No. 1 last month.
“Maybe you can’t win everything,” said his father, Robert Federer. “After the French Open, you could see many (negative) comments saying, ‘Federer is gone,’ ‘Federer will never win another Grand Slam.’ And Federer proved the opposite.”
His son heard those comments and thought about them.
“I was aware of it. I mean, I’m a bit disappointed. Sometimes, to a point, a bit annoyed,” Federer said, mentioning the letters he received.

They stopped on Saturday with Murray leading 6-2, 7-6 (5), 2-3.
The winner will face a Federer who looked confident and supremely competent against Djokovic in their rematch of the 2007 final.

India’s Leander Paes won his second US Open and fourth Grand Slam mixed doubles title  at the Flushing Meadows on Thursday when he and his Zimbabwean partner Cara Black beat Scotland’s Jamie Murray and American Liezel Huber in the final 7-6 (8-6) and 6-4.

Leander, who won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles with Martina Navratilova and another with Lisa Raymond, partnered Cara for the first time, but the two gelled so well that it looked as if they were regular partners.
Both Paes and Cara showed excellent hands as they complimented each other with their deft touch play. The fifth seeds did not face a break point in the entire match, but they were in real danger of losing the first set when they were down 2-5 and then a set point in the tie-breaker. Cara produced two great volleys to pull them out of a tight corner. They went on to clinch the set, taking the next two points, Paes putting away a customary volley.

Hi folks….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

World number one and top seed Ana Ivanovic was thrashed out by 188th-ranked Julie Coin in the second round of the US Open and it’s the earliest exit by women’s top seed at the US Open .

The 20-year-old Serb Ivanovic didn’t blame her recent thumb injury for the defeat, but rather her lack of match practice. She told her right thumb had totally recovered and now she felt no pain in her thumb.

Ivanovic is aware of the fact that she hasn’t justified her top ranking: “If you are asking if I’m playing like a number one, no.” However, she denies the pressure of being top ranked player was the problem.
